Tales of the Walking Dead is an anthology. Each episode tells a separate story with different characters. You do not need to watch it in order, and it does not connect to the main timeline in a required way. Many fans save it for later or skip it entirely without missing anything.
Fear starts as a slow-burn family drama set at the beginning of the outbreak. It picks up pace in later seasons. If you want action right away, start with the original series and come back to Fear when you want more world-building.
The Walking Dead: World Beyond runs only two seasons. It introduces the Civic Republic Military, which becomes important in later spinoffs. You can watch it as a two-season bridge between the original series and the newer shows.
Both Dead City and Daryl Dixon give enough context that you can follow without deep knowledge. But the emotional payoff is much bigger if you already know these characters from the original series.
The Ones Who Live picks up Rick Grimes' story after he disappears in Season 9. Watching it without the original series would be like starting a book at the last chapter. Start with Season 1 of the original show.
